Issues facing Nigeria Today

Issues facing Nigeria Today

As a Regional member of Gallup Association (a world leading opinion poll organisation), we continuously conduct opinion polls among national representative samples on some burning national issues.

In the first Quarter of 2018, we fielded two questions which we believe are of interest to most Nigerians: a) what are the top 5 major problems facing Nigeria today? b) all things considered, which ONE Nigerian, male or female living today either in business or politics, would you consider to be most reliable and trustworthy?

The study was conducted across the six geo-political regions covering both urban and rural areas. A total of 5,000 interviews were conducted. The sample distribution was proportionate to the population of each State and respondents were randomly selected.

a) Top 5 major problems Nigerians are faced with today
Our findings show that unemployment (33%) is a major problem faced by Nigerians today. This is more pronounced among the youths who are seeking greener pasture and gainful employment. Statistics have shown that over 60% of Nigeria youths are not gainfully employed despite the fact that some of them have completed higher education for the past five years.

b) Most trusted Nigerian in either politics or business
When respondents were asked to spontaneously mention an individual they consider most reliable and trustworthy either in politics or business, Alhaji Aliko Dangote topped the list with 35%. Other prominent Nigerians were also mentioned ranging 20% to 28%
